Dr. Tyeler Matsuo

Tyeler Matsuo joined the Energy and Technology Policy Group in February 2015 to conduct her master’s thesis and began her PhD with the group in October 2015. After succesfully defending her PhD in 2019, she started a new position at the external pageRocky Mountain Institute. Her research interests lie in the role of public policy in influencing low-carbon technological change in the energy sector, with a particular focus on emerging economies.

Tyeler holds a Master of Science in Energy Science and Technology from ETH Zurich and a Bachelor of Engineering in mechanical engineering from external pageMcGill University in Montreal. She was awarded the Excellence Scholarship and the Willi Studer prize 2016 for her studies at ETH Zurich and the external pageGovernor General’s Silver Academic Medal for her studies at McGill University.

Prior to starting her PhD, Tyeler worked for the external pageRocky Mountain Institute in the US, a non-profit energy think-tank; external pagePerspectives GmbH in Switzerland as a climate policy consultant; and external pageConestoga Rovers and Associates in Canada as an intern supporting the management of green energy projects.

In her free time, Tyeler enjoys hiking and running, conducting culinary experiments in her kitchen, and watching the external pageChicago Blackhawks win.
