Katrin Sievert wins the Inflection Award

She is named one of the top 30 young scientists in the world working on climate change.

Katrin Sievert is one of the 2025 Inflection Winners.

Katrin Sievert, a PhD candidate at ETH Zurich’s Climate Finance and Policy Group and the Institute of Science, Technology and Policy, supervised by Professors Tobias Schmidt and Bjarne Steffen, has been named one of the world’s 30 most promising young scientists in climate tech at the Inflection Award, the first global award celebrating early-career scientists tackling climate change. Selected through a rigorous assessment by a panel of 17 judges, Katrin is among the 30 winners from over 500 applicants worldwide.

The awards ceremony took place during a two-day event in Paris, where the winners had a first-hand experience with leaders in climate science, investment, and policy. Featuring top executives from Breakthrough Energy, RMI, Quadrature Climate Foundation, and others, the program provided unparalleled access to the best minds in the field and equipped these young scientists with the tools and networks to scale their impact.

The 2025 Inflection Award cohort comprises PhD students and graduates from the world’s top institutions. Each awardee is working on cutting-edge solutions to climate change across diverse sectors, from chemical engineering to geosciences to climate policy, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in climate innovation. The award is organized by external page Marble, a deeptech venture studio exclusively focused on climate, and proudly supported by Breakthrough Energy Fellows and the Quadrature Climate Foundation.

Katrin’s research is supported by the EU’s Horizon 2020 program (Marie Skłodowska-Curie), the RESPONSE program (external page Zurich-Basel Plant Science Center) and external page ETH Zurich | Institute of Science, Technology and Policy (ISTP). Her works have been published in external page Joule and external page Energy Economics.
